core-v-freertos-kernel is an OpenHW-hosted FreeRTOS kernel fork containing task, queue, and list management, optional co-routines, public headers, and target/compiler ports. It is useful for studying the kernel and portability layer, rather than application demonstrations. For CORE-V MCU drivers and examples, see core-v-freertos, but check its actual dependency before making kernel changes: the reviewed runtime selects pulp-platform/pulp-freertos-kernel as its submodule upstream, not this OpenHW fork.

core-v-freertos is the software-support repository for running real-time applications on CORE-V MCU. It combines FreeRTOS, board and peripheral drivers, demonstrations, templates, tests, no-RTOS examples, and execution paths for RTL simulation or the GVSOC virtual platform. Embedded developers can use it to study application examples and target integration, following the documented toolchain and platform versions. At the reviewed revision, its kernel submodule points to pulp-platform/pulp-freertos-kernel, not OpenHW's separate core-v-freertos-kernel fork; changes to that OpenHW fork are not automatically used by this build.
CORE-V MCU is a standalone microcontroller-class SoC platform built around CV32E40P and derived from PULPissimo. The repository combines processor integration, memories, peripherals, FPGA targets, simulation flows, and JTAG debug into a complete system rather than providing another CPU core. It is a useful reference for engineers who want to see how a CORE-V core is assembled into an ASIC- or FPGA-oriented MCU, with Nexys A7 and Genesys 2 paths available for hands-on bring-up.
